Tohoku... is one enormous museum. Surrounded by ocean on three sides, most of this vast region is made up of thickly-forested mountains. Here the landscape looks much as it has for centuries, and the people who live in its fringes have become skilled at incorporating the natural world into their daily lives. Graced with an abundance of ruins and other sites of historical significance set amid the majesty of nature, Tohoku is like one enormous museum and can satisfy the intellectual curiosity of any traveler.

Akita's attraction is the various beautiful faces of nature. These include the deepest lake in Japan, Lake Tazawa-ko, Lake Towada-ko known for its mystique beauty, the Oga-hanto Peninsula with its beautiful coast line and sunset, the scenic Hachimantai Plateau, and Mt. Chokai-zan also known as Akita Fuji.

Aomori is a host of many festivals throughout the seasons, through which you can get a feeling of the lives of the people. The festivals include the Aomori Nebuta-matsuri Festival and the Hirosaki Neputa-matsuri Festival that paint the skies of summer in Aomori.

Fukushima, situated at the south of the Tohoku (northeastern) region, is divided into three areas by three mountainous belts running roughly parallel from south to north. It is blessed with a variety of natural spectacles, such as spaciously undulating mountains, a complicated volcanic topography and different sizes of lakes and ponds.

Iwate's long coastline blessed with natural good ports makes fishing ports at which abundant marine products are unloaded throughout the year, and there are quite a number of restaurants in the vicinity where you can enjoy fresh seafood such as scallops, oysters and sea urchins.

Miyagi Prefecture is situated in the northwestern part of Japan, facing the Pacific Ocean. With the capital of Sendai City in the center, to the south is Abukuma-gawa River, and to the east, Kitagami-gawa River. On the coastal side are intricate shores on the north and moderate beaches from Matsushima on the south.
Yamagata is blessed with natural scenic points: Mogami-gawa River, which forms the vast Shonai Plain at its lower part and then flows into the Japan Sea; Zao Mountan Range, which was an object of mountain beliefs/worship; and mountains like Dewa Sanzan Mountains and Mt. Chokai.
